Toyota Collision Repair — San Fernando Valley

Toyota is the most-driven brand in Los Angeles, and it is the most common vehicle in our shop. We are not a Toyota-certified facility — we are an I-CAR Gold Class collision center that repairs Toyotas to OEM specification, works from Toyota’s published procedures and CRIB bulletins, and does pre- and post-repair scanning on every car.

Honest positioning

No Toyota certification — and it changes less than you would think

We are not in Toyota’s certified collision program. We say that up front, because a shop that fudges a certification claim is a shop that will fudge your repair. What matters more for a Toyota is whether the shop reads Toyota’s published documentation, and this is where Toyota is genuinely different from the German brands: Toyota publishes clearly, publishes broadly, and its procedures are accessible to any shop with a licensed repair-data subscription. We have that through ALLDATA and Mitchell, and we have the I-CAR Gold Class training designation — held by roughly the top 10% of collision shops nationally — that applies to every make we touch.

Toyota’s Collision Repair Information Bulletin 191 is the one that shapes our process. It states that repairers should perform a Health Check diagnostic scan because a capable scan tool is the only way to identify and document diagnostic trouble codes, and that it is necessary for repairers to perform a Health Check scan before and after every repair if a vehicle has sustained collision damage. We follow that on every Toyota, without exception, and the printouts go in your file. Adjusters delete that line item constantly; we put it back with the bulletin attached.

The other thing working in your favor: Toyota parts availability in Los Angeles is excellent. Toyota is the highest-volume brand in the region, so OEM panels, lamps, and sensors are usually on the shelf at a local dealer or a day out. That means Toyota repairs at our shop are typically the fastest in the building — a Corolla bumper that would take three weeks of parts waiting on a European car is often done in four days here.

Sedans, trucks, hybrids

Toyota models we repair

Camry

The single most common car in our shop, period. Rear-end bumper and trunk work, front-end hits, quarter panels. See our Camry page for model-year notes and real cost ranges.

Corolla & Corolla Cross

The Valley’s commuter default and the most common car at CSUN. Bumper covers, fenders, headlamps, and low-speed rear-end repairs. Fast turnaround because parts are always available.

RAV4 & Highlander

Toyota’s volume crossovers. Liftgate and rear bumper damage from parking structures, side-impact quarter and rocker work, and Toyota Safety Sense camera and radar recalibration after front-clip repairs.

Tacoma & Tundra

Bedside and tailgate replacement, boxed-frame straightening on the rack to Toyota measurement points, and rear camera recalibration. Tacoma is the most-stolen-and-recovered vehicle we see, which means a lot of ignition, door, and column repairs too.

Prius, Prius Prime & hybrids

Hybrid and plug-in models require documented high-voltage disable and isolation testing before disassembly. We handle body, panel and refinish work to OEM specification; battery pack service goes to Toyota.

Sienna, 4Runner, Sequoia, GR86 & bZ4X

Sienna sliding-door and track repair, 4Runner and Sequoia body-on-frame work, GR86 aluminum hood and roof, and the bZ4X battery-electric platform with full HV safety procedure.

What we see every week

Most common Toyota collision repairs

Rear-end collision damage

Toyota’s dominance on Valley roads means Toyota dominates our rear-end work: Camrys and Corollas rear-ended in stop-and-go on the 5 and 210, RAV4s clipped in Northridge parking structures. Bumper cover, absorber, reinforcement inspection, trunk floor check, and rear sensor reinstallation. Typical turnaround 3-5 business days. Full sequence on our rear-end collision repair page.

Toyota Safety Sense recalibration

TSS uses a forward camera at the windshield and a radar behind the front emblem. Any windshield, bumper, grille, or emblem operation — plus alignment changes — puts calibration in play. Toyota treats this as a documented operation with a pass/fail result. We calibrate in-house on target boards rather than subcontracting mid-repair.

Tacoma and Tundra bed and tailgate

Truck beds take the abuse. Bedside and tailgate replacement with OEM panels, blended refinishing on metallics, and rear camera recalibration after tailgate work. Frame measurement on the rack when the impact was more than cosmetic.

Health Check scanning before and after

Per Toyota’s CRIB 191 guidance, we run a Health Check diagnostic scan at intake before writing the estimate and again before delivery. It catches what photos never show — a stability control sensor thrown out of range, a rear radar module knocked offline, an occupant classification fault after a side impact.

Insurance handling

Toyota’s own bulletin is your leverage on scan and calibration lines

Toyota claims are high-volume and low-margin for insurers, so the estimating software’s default is aggressive: aftermarket bumper covers, reconditioned lamps, and deleted scan and calibration lines. On non-structural cosmetic parts we will talk you through the aftermarket tradeoff honestly instead of pretending every alternative part is garbage. On scanning, calibration, structure, and any part that carries or aims a Toyota Safety Sense sensor, we do not budge — and we cite Toyota’s CRIB 191 Health Check guidance in the supplement.

California Insurance Code §758.5 gives you the right to choose this shop. We are an Allstate Direct Repair Program partner and we bill directly to Geico, State Farm, Progressive, Farmers, Mercury, AAA, Liberty Mutual, Nationwide, and USAA. We handle the estimate, the supplements, the calibration documentation, and the rental coordination.

Because Toyotas hold resale value unusually well, structural damage on a newer Toyota produces a larger dollar loss than owners expect. That is recoverable from the at-fault driver’s insurer — see our California diminished value page before you close the claim.

Toyota repair FAQ

Questions Toyota owners ask us

Are you a Toyota-certified collision center?

No. We are not in Toyota’s certified collision program, and we will not describe ourselves as Toyota-certified or Toyota-approved. We are an I-CAR Gold Class certified collision center that repairs Toyotas to Toyota’s published OEM specification, using licensed manufacturer repair data, in-house diagnostic scanning, and in-house ADAS calibration.

Does Toyota require a diagnostic scan on collision repairs?

Toyota’s Collision Repair Information Bulletin 191 states that a capable scan tool is the only way to identify and document diagnostic trouble codes, and that it is necessary for repairers to perform a Health Check scan before and after every repair when a vehicle has sustained collision damage. We follow that on every Toyota. If your insurer deletes the line, we file a supplement with the bulletin attached.

Why is my Toyota repair cheaper and faster here than a European car of the same damage?

Parts. Toyota is the highest-volume brand in Los Angeles, so OEM panels, lamps, and sensors are typically on a local dealer shelf or one day out. Compare that with an aluminum European panel that may be a two-to-four-week import. Toyota labor is also more straightforward — less aluminum, fewer proprietary fasteners, more published procedure. It genuinely is a faster, cheaper repair.

How much does a Toyota RAV4 rear bumper replacement cost in 2026?

A RAV4 rear bumper cover replacement with OEM parts, refinish, and reinstallation of the parking sensors typically runs $1,000 to $1,700. Add rear radar recalibration for blind-spot monitoring and it is roughly $1,300 to $2,100. Absorber, reinforcement bar, or power liftgate damage pushes it toward $3,000. We quote from your VIN and photos, not from an average.

Can you work on a Prius, RAV4 Prime, or bZ4X?

Yes. Every hybrid and battery-electric Toyota starts with documented high-voltage disable and isolation verification before disassembly begins. We handle body, panel, structural and refinish work to Toyota’s OEM specification. Battery pack service and damage extending into the pack enclosure or its mounting structure go to a Toyota dealer, and we will tell you that at the estimate.

My Tacoma was stolen and recovered with body and ignition damage. Do you handle that?

Yes, and it is a large part of our Tacoma work. Theft-recovery jobs usually combine body damage, a broken ignition or steering column, damaged door locks and glass, and interior damage from the break-in. They are also claims where insurers frequently miss items on the first estimate. We do a full documented teardown and photo inventory before writing, which is what keeps the supplement from turning into three supplements.
