Acura Collision Repair — San Fernando Valley

Acura is Honda’s luxury division, and it is covered by the same certification. XP Auto Center is Honda ProFirst Certified, which means American Honda has audited us to repair Acura structural and safety systems to factory specification — with the OEM parts pipeline and repair data to back it up.

What ProFirst means for an Acura

One certification, two brands — and Acura is the harder half

American Honda Motor Co. issues a single collision certification that covers both nameplates: Honda ProFirst. When we passed the ProFirst audit, Honda signed off on our equipment, our technician training records, and our repair process for every vehicle American Honda sells — which includes the full Acura lineup. There is no separate “Acura certification” to look for. If a shop tells you they have one, they are describing ProFirst.

In practice Acura is the more demanding side of that certification. Acura bodies use more aluminum, more ultra-high-strength steel in the safety cage, and far more sensors per vehicle than the Honda equivalents. A 2024 MDX has AcuraWatch radar behind the grille, a forward camera at the windshield, blind-spot modules in both rear quarters, and a surround-view camera set in the mirrors and tailgate. Touch any of those panels and you own a calibration job, not just a paint job. Our ADAS bay handles static and dynamic recalibration in-house, so your MDX does not get shuttled to a third party mid-repair.

The Acura NSX raises the bar again — a full aluminum-intensive space frame with multi-material joints. Honda restricts NSX structural work to shops with aluminum-certified welders and a segregated aluminum work area. We have both, and both were verified during the ProFirst audit.

Current and past lineup

Acura models we repair

Integra & Integra Type S

The 2023-onward Integra shares its platform with the 11th-gen Civic, which means we already stock the procedures and jigs. Type S adds an aluminum hood and wider fenders — different part numbers, different blend strategy on the Apex Blue.

TLX & TLX Type S

Ultra-high-strength steel front bulkhead and an aluminum front subframe. Front-end hits on the TLX almost always involve the radar bracket behind the badge, which has to be re-aimed on a target board, not by eye.

RDX

Our highest-volume Acura by a wide margin in the northeast Valley. Rear bumper and liftgate damage from parking-structure hits, plus quarter panel work from side impacts on Sepulveda and Roscoe.

MDX & MDX Type S

Three-row, heavy, and sensor-dense. Second-row door and sliding-rail damage, tailgate replacement, and full AcuraWatch recalibration after any front-clip repair. Type S air suspension needs a ride-height reset before calibration.

ZDX (electric)

Acura’s first EV, built on the Ultium pack. High-voltage disable, isolation testing, and pack inspection are mandatory before any structural work. Our technicians are trained to the HV safety standard the certification requires.

ILX, RLX, TSX, TL & older

Discontinued but still all over the Valley. We pull factory-spec repair data for these through our Honda Tech Info Portal subscription, so a 2011 TSX gets the same weld map the factory published.

What Acura owners bring us

Most common Acura collision repairs

Front bumper and radar bracket

The AcuraWatch millimeter-wave radar sits in a stamped bracket behind the lower grille. A 10 mph parking hit that barely marks the cover can shift that bracket a few millimeters and throw adaptive cruise off. We replace the bracket to spec and do a static radar aim, then a dynamic road verification. Typical turnaround 4-6 business days. See our bumper repair page for the full process.

Aluminum hood and fender work

TLX, MDX, and NSX hoods are aluminum. Aluminum cannot be worked with the same tools, filler, or heat cycles as steel, and cross-contamination from steel dust causes galvanic corrosion that shows up as paint bubbling a year later. We keep a separate aluminum station with dedicated tooling.

Quarter panel and rocker replacement

Side-impact repairs on RDX and MDX. Honda’s factory procedure specifies exact weld counts, adhesive chemistry, and where structural foam goes back. Skipping the foam is common and invisible — until the next crash, when the rocker folds instead of absorbing. We follow the published map.

Airbag deployment and SRS reset

Full SRS module replacement, seatbelt pretensioner service, and the factory scan-clear procedure Acura requires before delivery. We have had Acuras towed to us from other shops that reassembled the dash but never cleared the SRS memory — the light comes back and the system stays disarmed.

Insurance handling

Certification is your leverage on an Acura claim

California Insurance Code §758.5 gives you the right to pick your own shop, no matter what the adjuster’s preferred-network list says. On Acura claims that right matters more than usual, because Acura repairs generate expensive line items — OEM aluminum panels, radar recalibration, surround-view camera aim — that photo-based estimating software routinely omits.

We are an Allstate Direct Repair Program partner and we bill directly to Geico, State Farm, Progressive, Farmers, Mercury, AAA, Liberty Mutual, Nationwide, and USAA. When an estimate comes in missing the calibration operations, we file a supplement with the American Honda position statement attached. A ProFirst shop citing a manufacturer position statement is hard to argue with, and it usually gets approved on the first pass.

If your Acura is newer and the repair was structural, ask us about a diminished value claim. Luxury nameplates lose more resale value per dollar of damage than mainstream brands, and that loss is recoverable from the at-fault party’s carrier in California.

Acura repair FAQ

Questions Acura owners ask us

Is there such a thing as an Acura-certified body shop?

Not as a separate program. American Honda Motor Co. issues one collision certification — Honda ProFirst — and it covers both Honda and Acura. XP Auto Center holds it. Any shop advertising a standalone “Acura certification” is either describing ProFirst or describing something that does not exist.

Does AcuraWatch have to be recalibrated after a bumper repair?

Yes, if the radar or camera was removed, or if the bracket that holds it was disturbed. That covers nearly every front bumper replacement and most windshield replacements. Recalibration is a documented Acura operation with a measurable pass/fail result, not an optional add-on. We do it in-house on a target board and then verify on the road.

Can you repair an aluminum hood on my TLX or do you have to replace it?

Depends on the damage. Shallow dents in aluminum with no crease and no paint break can often be worked, sometimes with paintless dent repair. Once aluminum is creased or stretched it work-hardens and cracks rather than moving back, so replacement becomes the correct call. We tell you which one you have before you commit.

How much does an Acura RDX rear bumper replacement cost in the Valley?

In 2026 a straightforward RDX rear bumper cover replacement with OEM parts, refinish, and parking-sensor reinstallation typically runs $1,400 to $2,300 depending on color and whether the rear radar modules need recalibration. Add reinforcement bar or absorber damage and it moves toward $3,000. We give you a written breakdown, not a range on the phone.

My Acura ZDX is electric. Can you work on it?

Yes. The ZDX uses GM’s Ultium battery architecture, and we are also in the GM Certified Collision Repair Network, so we hold both sides of that vehicle’s requirements. Every EV repair starts with high-voltage disable and isolation testing before a single panel comes off. If we find pack damage that requires factory-only intervention, we tell you and coordinate with the dealer instead of guessing.

Will using a non-dealer shop void my Acura warranty?

No. Federal law (the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act) prevents a manufacturer from voiding your warranty because an independent shop did the work. What can create a problem is a repair done outside factory specification. That is exactly the risk ProFirst certification removes — we repair to the published Acura procedure and document it, so your warranty and your paper trail stay intact.
