Straight answer first: XP Auto Center is not a Tesla-approved body shop. We repair Teslas to OEM specification, we are I-CAR Gold Class certified, and for most collision damage we are substantially cheaper and faster than the approved network. For warranty-critical structural and battery work we will tell you to go to Tesla.

We are not Tesla-approved. Here is exactly what that means for you.
Tesla Approved Body Shops are factory-trained and factory-equipped, and Tesla’s own materials describe them as set up to rebuild vehicles to original specification for structural integrity and finish. That is a real distinction and we are not going to pretend otherwise. We are not in that network. What we are is an I-CAR Gold Class shop — the top training tier in the collision industry, held by roughly the top 10% of shops nationally — with a licensed subscription to Tesla’s published body repair procedures through our repair-data platforms, aluminum-capable technicians and equipment, and 20 years of high-voltage-adjacent work in this Valley.
The reason Tesla owners call us anyway is price and schedule. The approved network in Los Angeles is chronically backed up, and approved-shop estimates on the same damage routinely come in far above an independent shop’s number — owners regularly report multiples, not percentages. Part of that gap is legitimate: factory tooling and training cost money. A lot of it is replace-instead-of-repair policy. An approved shop directed to replace a liftgate that closes and latches perfectly will replace it. We will repair it if the panel is repairable within Tesla’s published limits, and we will show you the procedure that says so.
Where we stop matters, and we want you to know before you tow the car here. If your Tesla needs high-voltage battery pack service, if structural damage extends into the pack enclosure or its mounts, if a megacasting is damaged beyond Tesla’s published sectioning limits, or if you have an active structural warranty concern, we will say so in the first fifteen minutes and refer you to Tesla. We would rather lose the job than hand you a car we are not the right shop for.
Tesla models we repair
Model 3 & Model 3 Highland
Our highest-volume Tesla. Steel-and-aluminum mixed structure with a rear megacasting on newer cars. Bumper, fender, door, and quarter panel work plus Autopilot camera recalibration. See our Model 3 page for cost ranges.
Model Y
The most common Tesla on Valley streets. Front and rear megacastings, aluminum closures, and a rear liftgate that is the single most frequently damaged panel we see. Rear-end repairs from stop-and-go on the 405 are constant.
Model S
Aluminum-intensive body. Large panels, expensive parts, long lead times. We are candid about what an aluminum Model S quarter panel actually costs before you commit to the repair path.
Model X
Falcon-wing doors are their own repair discipline — the door itself, the actuators, and the obstruction sensors all have to work together afterward. Misaligned falcon doors leak and bind; we set and verify them in the closed position.
Cybertruck
Stainless-steel exoskeleton panels that cannot be refinished conventionally — damaged panels are replaced, not filled and painted. Parts availability is the limiting factor. We will tell you honestly if Tesla is the better path.
Where we refer you out
High-voltage battery pack service, damage into the pack enclosure or its mounts, megacasting damage beyond Tesla’s published sectioning limits, and active structural warranty claims. We refer these to Tesla — Van Nuys service is the closest.
Most common Tesla collision repairs
Rear bumper and liftgate
The number one Tesla claim in our shop, mostly low-speed rear-end hits on the 405 and 118. Bumper cover, absorber, and — critically — an honest repair-versus-replace call on the liftgate. Approved shops frequently replace; we repair when the panel is within published limits. That single decision often halves the bill.
Aluminum panel repair, not replacement
Model 3, Y, S, and X use aluminum closures. Aluminum work-hardens and tolerates limited heat cycles, so the repairable window is narrower than steel — but it exists, and it is defined in Tesla’s body repair documentation, which specifies allowed welding methods, whether cold and heat repairs are permitted per material, maximum heat, and how many heat cycles. We work inside those numbers and document it.
Megacasting damage assessment
Tesla’s large single-piece castings have a reputation for making cars unrepairable. That reputation is mostly wrong — industry teardown analysis has found the vulnerable sections of these castings can be sectioned and that Tesla publishes a bolt-in repair part for exactly that purpose, in some cases making a partial replacement cheaper than the old multi-piece steel rear structure. We assess against Tesla’s published limits. If yours is outside them, we say so.
Autopilot camera recalibration
Tesla uses a camera-only sensing suite, so camera aim is everything. Any windshield, mirror, pillar, or front-clip operation puts calibration in play, plus a drive-based recalibration cycle afterward. See our ADAS calibration page.
Your insurer cannot require you to use a Tesla-approved shop
California Insurance Code §758.5 gives you the right to choose any licensed repair facility. That cuts both ways on a Tesla: your carrier cannot force you into the approved network, and it also cannot refuse to pay a reasonable non-approved-shop estimate. What it will do is push back on line items — camera recalibration time, aluminum labor rates, structural adhesive. We document each one against Tesla’s published procedure and file the supplement.
We are an Allstate Direct Repair Program partner and we bill directly to Geico, State Farm, Progressive, Farmers, Mercury, AAA, Liberty Mutual, Nationwide, and USAA. Tesla’s own insurance product is a different animal and generally steers toward the approved network — if that is your policy, ask us to run the numbers both ways before you decide.
Two things worth knowing. Teslas total out more often than comparable gas cars because parts and labor are expensive relative to a depreciating used value, and we will tell you early if yours is heading that way. And if the repair was structural and you keep the car, the resale hit is recoverable as a diminished value claim.

Why would I use a non-approved shop for a Tesla?
Cost and time, primarily. The approved network in Los Angeles carries long waits, and approved-shop estimates on identical damage frequently come in dramatically higher — owners commonly report differences of several thousand dollars on moderate repairs. Much of that gap comes from a replace-rather-than-repair posture. We repair panels that are repairable within Tesla’s published limits, which is often the difference between a $1,400 job and a $4,000 one.
Will repairing at your shop void my Tesla warranty?
Collision work at an independent shop does not void your vehicle warranty — federal law prevents a manufacturer from conditioning warranty coverage on where you get body work done. What can be jeopardized is warranty coverage on a specific component if a repair is performed outside specification. That is precisely why we draw a hard line at high-voltage pack work and structural damage beyond published limits, and refer those cases to Tesla.
Is a damaged Model Y megacasting automatically a total loss?
No, and this is one of the most persistent myths about Teslas. Independent teardown and repair-procedure analysis has found that the vulnerable areas of these large castings can be sectioned, and that Tesla supplies a bolt-through repair component designed for that purpose. On the Model Y the rear casting also sits deep under the outer skin, so it is better protected than owners assume. We assess yours against Tesla’s published limits and tell you which side of the line it is on.
Do you handle Autopilot camera recalibration in-house?
Yes. Tesla’s driver-assistance suite is camera-based, so aim accuracy is not optional. We perform the required calibration in-house and complete the drive-based recalibration cycle before we hand the car back. A Tesla returned with uncalibrated cameras will throw Autopilot faults and, worse, may quietly misjudge lane position — we will not deliver a car in that state.
How long does a typical Tesla repair take at XP?
A rear bumper cover replacement with recalibration is 4-7 business days. A liftgate repair-and-refinish is 5-8; a liftgate replacement depends on Tesla parts availability and can add one to three weeks. Aluminum quarter panel work runs 2-4 weeks. Parts supply, not our shop schedule, is almost always the constraint on Tesla work, and we tell you the honest date rather than the optimistic one.
