GM Certified Collision Repair Network

What GM certification requires — and what it gets you

GM’s Collision Repair Network is built around a mandatory Basic certification that every participating shop must hold, with specialized tiers layered on top for specific vehicles and technologies. The baseline requirements include five years in business or verifiable equivalent credit and service history, garagekeepers liability coverage of at least $1 million, a limited lifetime warranty offered to customers, and a subscription to an estimating system with documented access to GM service information and repair procedures.

The tooling list is long and specific — squeeze-type resistance spot welders capable of GM’s published weld parameters, measuring systems, aluminum capability, and calibration equipment. GM audits against it. The practical benefit is that when your Silverado’s repair plan calls for a specific weld type in a specific location on a boron-steel rail, we are reading GM’s actual procedure rather than guessing from a generic estimating database.

GM also has one of the industry’s clearest positions on diagnostic scanning: all vehicles being assessed for collision damage must be tested for diagnostic trouble codes during the estimating phase, not just at the end. That means a pre-repair scan is part of the process on every GM vehicle we write, and a post-repair scan before the keys go back. It catches damage that photos never show — a rear radar module knocked offline by a bumper hit, for instance.

Four brands, one certification

GM models we repair

Chevrolet Silverado & GMC Sierra

Our highest-volume GM work. Bedside and tailgate damage, boxed-frame straightening on the rack to GM measurement points, and rear camera recalibration. Fleet and contractor trucks from Pacoima and Sun Valley are regulars.

Chevrolet Equinox, Traverse, Blazer & Trax

Family crossovers, and the most common GM claims we write after trucks. Front and rear bumper work, quarter panels, liftgates, and Chevy Safety Assist camera and radar recalibration.

Chevrolet Tahoe & Suburban / GMC Yukon

Full-size body-on-frame SUVs. Heavier impacts, independent rear suspension damage on 2021+ models, and rear liftgate and quarter panel work. Third-row seat and belt inspection after any rear-end hit.

Cadillac Escalade, XT4, XT5, XT6, CT4 & CT5

Cadillac’s aluminum content and Super Cruise hardware make these the most calibration-heavy GM vehicles. Escalade’s 38-inch curved OLED display and Super Cruise camera array both factor into the repair plan.

Chevrolet Bolt, Blazer EV, Equinox EV & Silverado EV

Ultium-platform EVs plus the older Bolt. High-voltage disable and isolation testing before disassembly, pack enclosure inspection, and strict adherence to GM’s repair-versus-replace limits around the battery structure.

Buick Enclave, Encore GX, Envista & GMC Acadia, Canyon, Terrain

Full Buick and GMC coverage under the same certification, including the aluminum-intensive components on newer Acadia and Canyon and the older Buick models still common across the Valley.

What we see every week

Most common Chevy and GM collision repairs

Silverado and Sierra bed and tailgate

Truck beds take the abuse. We replace bedsides and tailgates with GM OEM panels, refinish to a blended match on metallics, and recalibrate the tailgate-mounted rear camera. On MultiPro and Multi-Flex tailgates the hinge and latch geometry has to be reset precisely or the inner gate binds.

Boron and ultra-high-strength steel rails

GM uses press-hardened boron steel in the safety cage. Boron cannot be heated or straightened — GM’s procedures specify sectioning at defined locations or full replacement. This is the single most common place we see prior bad repairs from non-certified shops, and it is a real safety issue on the next impact.

Super Cruise and Chevy Safety Assist calibration

Cadillac Super Cruise depends on a forward camera, forward radar, LiDAR map data, and a driver-attention camera all agreeing. Replace a windshield or a front bumper and the system needs documented recalibration. We do it in-house rather than subcontracting it out mid-job.

Full-size SUV rear-end damage

Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon, and Escalade rear-end collisions on the 5 and 405 are constant. Liftgate, rear bumper, floor extension, and third-row occupant safety inspection. Our rear-end collision repair page covers the sequence in detail.

Insurance handling

GM’s scanning position statement removes the argument

The most common line item insurers question on GM repairs is the pre- and post-repair diagnostic scan. GM’s position is unambiguous: every vehicle assessed for collision damage must be tested for diagnostic trouble codes during the estimation phase. When an adjuster deletes the scan, we attach the position statement to the supplement and it goes back on.

We are an Allstate Direct Repair Program partner, and we bill directly to Geico, State Farm, Progressive, Farmers, Mercury, AAA, Liberty Mutual, Nationwide, and USAA. Under California Insurance Code §758.5 you choose the shop — a carrier can recommend, but it cannot require. Being GM-certified means our estimate carries the manufacturer’s own procedure behind it.

GM certification also requires participating shops to provide a limited lifetime warranty. We go further: our workmanship warranty on body and paint is lifetime, transferable to nobody but valid for as long as you own the vehicle, and it is in writing.

Chevy & GM repair FAQ

Questions GM owners ask us

Does GM certification cover Cadillac, Buick, and GMC too?

Yes. The GM Certified Collision Repair Network is a single program covering all four General Motors nameplates — Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick, and GMC. There is no separate Cadillac or GMC certification to look for. Certain GM vehicles, like the Corvette C8 and some battery-electric models, sit behind additional specialized tiers within the same program.

Why can’t you just straighten a bent boron steel rail?

Because press-hardened boron steel gets its strength from a heat-treatment process that cannot be reproduced in a body shop. Heating it to straighten it destroys the microstructure permanently, leaving a rail that looks straight and is dramatically weaker. GM’s procedures specify either sectioning at defined locations or complete replacement. There is no third option, and no amount of adjuster pressure changes the metallurgy.

How much does a Chevy Silverado tailgate replacement cost?

In 2026 a standard Silverado tailgate replacement with a GM OEM panel, refinish, and rear camera reinstallation and calibration typically runs $1,800 to $3,200. A MultiPro or Multi-Flex tailgate with its power actuators and additional hinge assemblies can reach $4,500 or more. Aluminum-skinned tailgates on some trims add labor. We quote from your VIN, not from an average.

Do you do the diagnostic scans yourself or send it out?

In-house. We run pre-repair and post-repair scans on every GM vehicle and print the results into your file. Sending scans out adds days and creates gaps in documentation. It also means the shop finds out about a hidden fault after reassembly instead of before, which is how repairs turn into second supplements.

Can you work on a Chevy Bolt or Blazer EV?

Yes. We follow GM’s high-voltage safety procedure: disable, verify isolation, and document before any structural disassembly begins. GM publishes specific limits on repairing the battery enclosure and its mounting points; damage beyond those limits requires pack replacement, and we will tell you that plainly rather than repair something we should not.

My Silverado is a work truck. How fast can you turn it around?

Faster than average if you tell us up front. Simple bed or bumper work is 4-7 business days. We schedule fleet and contractor vehicles so the disassembly and parts ordering happen before the truck comes off the road where possible, which cuts several days off the total. Call us and we will build the schedule around your job site, not our board.
