Tesla Model 3 Collision Repair — San Fernando Valley
Plainly: we are not a Tesla-approved body shop. We repair Model 3s to OEM specification and we are usually far cheaper and faster than the approved network on ordinary collision damage. For pack service and deep structural work we refer you to Tesla. Brand detail on our Tesla hub page.

What we do on a Model 3, and where we stop
Tesla Approved Body Shops are factory-trained and factory-equipped, and Tesla describes them as set up to rebuild vehicles to original specification for structural integrity and finish. We are not one of them, and we will not imply otherwise on a page trying to earn your business. We are an I-CAR Gold Class collision center — the top training tier in the industry — with aluminum-capable equipment, a segregated aluminum work station, and licensed access to Tesla’s published body repair documentation, which specifies per material what welding methods are allowed, whether cold and heat repairs are permitted, the maximum heat, and how many heat cycles a panel can take.
We work strictly inside those published numbers. That is the whole basis of a legitimate independent Tesla repair: Tesla tells you what is allowed, and either you stay inside it and document the work, or you do not. Most Model 3 collision damage — bumpers, fenders, doors, quarter panels, liftgates, rear-end hits, wheel and suspension damage — sits comfortably inside those limits, and this is where our pricing advantage is real. Owners routinely get approved-shop estimates that are multiples of an independent shop’s number on the same damage, largely because approved networks default to replacing panels that are repairable within Tesla’s own limits.
Where we stop: high-voltage battery pack service, structural damage extending into the pack enclosure or its mounting structure, casting damage beyond Tesla’s published sectioning limits, and anything touching an active structural warranty claim you do not want to complicate. On those we refer you to Tesla — the Van Nuys service center is the closest to us. You will get that answer at the free assessment, in the first fifteen minutes, before you have committed to anything.
Model 3 model years and what changes
2024-2026 Highland refresh
Tesla reworked the entire front and rear — new fascias, taillights, and rear panels. Highland front and rear parts do not interchange with earlier cars. Reporting on the refresh indicates it did not adopt the front-and-rear gigacast halves used on the Model Y, which is good news for repairability.
2021-2023 (rear casting era)
Cars from roughly 2021 introduced a rear underbody casting in place of the earlier multi-piece stamped rear structure. Repairable in many cases via sectioning, and Tesla supplies a bolt-through repair component for that purpose.
2017-2020 (launch cars)
Multi-piece stamped steel and aluminum rear structure, no rear casting. Structurally the most conventional Model 3 to repair. Parts pricing is lower and used-panel availability is better than on newer cars.
Performance & Long Range
Different front and rear fascias on some years, different wheel and brake packages, and different suspension geometry. Suspension and subframe damage on Performance cars needs a documented alignment and, afterward, camera recalibration.
Paint and finish
Tesla’s Deep Blue Metallic, Midnight Silver, and the Ultra Red multi-stage finish all require blending into adjacent panels, never a butt-match at a panel edge. Tesla factory paint is thin by industry standards, which makes matching harder, not easier.
Where we refer you out
High-voltage pack service, structural damage into the pack enclosure or its mounts, casting damage beyond Tesla’s published sectioning limits, and warranty-critical structural claims. Tesla Van Nuys is the nearest service center.
Common Model 3 damage and what it costs
Rear bumper and liftgate — $1,200 to $4,500
The number one Model 3 claim, mostly low-speed rear-end hits on the 405, 118 and 210. Bumper cover and refinish typically $1,200 to $2,200. The variable that decides everything is repair versus replace on the liftgate: repairing a liftgate that latches and closes correctly can cut the total in half versus replacing it. We make that call against Tesla’s published limits and show you the documentation.
Front bumper, fenders and camera aim — $1,800 to $5,000
Model 3 front ends are aluminum-intensive with cameras and ultrasonic sensors. Because Tesla’s driver-assistance suite is camera-based, aim accuracy is the entire system — any front-clip, windshield, mirror or pillar operation requires calibration plus a drive-based recalibration cycle afterward. We complete and verify it. See front-end collision repair.
Rear casting damage — assessed, not assumed
The persistent myth is that a damaged casting totals the car. Independent teardown and repair-procedure analysis found the vulnerable sections of these castings can be sectioned, and that Tesla publishes a bolt-in repair item for exactly that scenario — in some cases making a partial replacement cheaper than repairing the older multi-piece steel rear structure. We measure and assess against Tesla’s limits. If yours is outside them, we tell you and refer you out.
Door and quarter panel work — $1,600 to $6,000
Tight street parking in San Fernando and Mission Hills, plus lane-change side swipes on the 405. Model 3 doors are aluminum-skinned; shallow undamaged-paint dents are sometimes paintless dent repair candidates. Structural door damage means replacement and side-impact sensor verification.
No carrier can force your Model 3 into the approved network
California Insurance Code §758.5 gives you the right to choose any licensed repair facility, which means your insurer cannot require a Tesla-approved shop and cannot refuse a reasonable independent estimate. What it will do is contest specific lines — camera calibration time, aluminum labor rates, structural adhesive, and diagnostic time. We document each against Tesla’s published procedure and file the supplement.
We are an Allstate Direct Repair Program partner and bill directly to Geico, State Farm, Progressive, Farmers, Mercury, AAA, Liberty Mutual, Nationwide, and USAA. If you carry Tesla’s own insurance product, it generally steers toward the approved network — ask us to run the comparison both ways in writing before you decide.
Two Model 3 realities worth knowing early. Teslas total out more readily than comparable gas cars because parts and labor are expensive against a used value that has fallen fast, and we will flag that at the assessment rather than after teardown. And if the car is structurally repaired and you keep it, the resale loss is significant and recoverable as a diminished value claim against the at-fault driver’s carrier.

Questions Model 3 owners ask us
Are you a Tesla-approved shop for Model 3 repair?
No. XP Auto Center is not in the Tesla Approved Body Shop network. We are an I-CAR Gold Class certified collision center that repairs Model 3s to OEM specification using Tesla’s published body repair documentation, with aluminum-capable equipment and in-house camera calibration. High-voltage pack service and structural damage into the battery enclosure go to Tesla, and we tell you that at the free assessment.
Does the Model 3 have a gigacasting that makes it unrepairable?
Not the way the internet suggests. Model 3s from roughly 2021 use a rear underbody casting, and reporting on the 2024 Highland refresh indicates it did not adopt the front-and-rear gigacast halves used on the Model Y. More importantly, teardown analysis has found these castings can be sectioned, and Tesla supplies a bolt-through repair component for that purpose. We assess against Tesla’s published limits rather than assuming the worst.
How much cheaper is your Model 3 repair than a Tesla-approved shop?
It varies with the damage, but the gap is frequently large — owners commonly report approved-shop quotes several times an independent shop’s number on the same moderate damage. Most of that difference comes from replace-versus-repair policy on panels that are repairable within Tesla’s own published limits. We will write you an itemized estimate you can put side by side with theirs.
Will Autopilot work correctly after you repair my Model 3?
Yes, because we calibrate it. Tesla’s suite is camera-only, so aim accuracy is not optional. Any operation involving the windshield, mirror, A-pillar, front bumper, or fenders puts calibration in play, and Tesla vehicles also require a drive-based recalibration cycle afterward. We complete it and verify before delivery. We will not hand back a car with uncalibrated cameras — a silently misaimed camera is more dangerous than a warning light.
How long will my Model 3 be in your shop?
A rear bumper cover replacement with calibration is 4-7 business days. Liftgate repair and refinish is 5-8; liftgate replacement depends on Tesla parts and can add one to three weeks. Aluminum quarter panel work runs 2-4 weeks. Parts supply, not our schedule, is nearly always the constraint on Tesla work — we quote the honest date, and we tell you when a part slips instead of letting you find out.
Will an independent repair hurt my Model 3’s resale or Tesla warranty?
Body work at an independent shop does not void your vehicle warranty; federal law prevents a manufacturer from conditioning warranty coverage on where collision work is performed. Coverage on a specific component can be jeopardized by a repair performed outside specification, which is exactly why we stay inside Tesla’s published limits and document everything. On resale, what protects you is documentation: a repair file showing OEM parts, published procedures, and completed calibration is worth real money at trade-in.
